Abstract: The QCT group at IFAE studies applications of superconducting
quantum circuits in quantum science and quantum technologies. In this talk, I
will give an overview of the group activities by focusing on the efforts to
study the impact of ionizing radiation on qubits and how to mitigate it, as
well as the development of superinductor-based circuits. I will first describe
the ICRQ project in which suppression of environmental radioactivity and
cosmic rays is implemented on a standard laboratory above ground. On the
second part of the talk, I will introduce nitridized aluminum as a new
disordered superconductor with potential for being used as a superinductor. I
will also show ongoing efforts to couple a flux qubit to a superconducting
resonator using a granular aluminum wire.
