Research at Physikalisches Institut

The PHI is organized in nine research groups, focusing on recent topics of experimental solid-state physics
Electron microscope image of a small section of a granular Aluminum superinductor (in red) connected to a Josephson junction [from Grünhaupt & Spiecker, Nature Materials 18, (2019)].
The generalized flux qubit consists of a Josephson junction shunted by a capacitor and an inductor. The closed superconducting loop formed by the Josephson junction and the inductor is used to tune the qubit spectrum in situ, by applying a magnetic flux.
